Relief coming in 2020 for Shoreline owners

Editor’s Note: A copy of the correspondence between the author and the IJC representative was sent along with this letter.

Readers around Prince Edward County may be interested in a reply to two direct questions that I asked of the International Joint Commission (I.J.C.) , who control the outflow rates of Lake Ontario.

Paul Allen – Manager, Policy, Programs & Communications – replied for the IJC Ottawa, on Aug. 12 .

Each question is followed by his answer,

1) Is it your intention to maintain Lake Ontario winter water levels the same as 2018 / 2019 winter, and 2016 / 2017 winter? NO

2) Or is it your plan / intention to reduce the winter Lake Ontario water levels, to allow Lake Ontario to accept / accommodate heavy spring runoff and precipitation, without flooding Lake Ontario shorelines? YES

Sincerely,

Don Montgomery
