Epstein’s courage saluted, hate and ignorance challenged

I applaud The Picton Gazette for the unequivocal and principled way its September 19 editorial affirmed that “hatred, bigotry and anti-semitism have no place in Prince Edward County.”

I also salute the courage of student Talia Epstein from whose opinion piece elsewhere the editorial quoted.

That this young woman has grown into a person who aspires not only to make where she lives a better, more inclusive place but wishes to take on our troubled world, as well, is laudable.

Imagine you knew a child who was subjected to the abuse she suffered.

Would you stand up for him or her or stand by and watch?

Such attitudes do not go away by themselves. Let’s support her with our own commitment to challenge the monster characterized by ignorance, prejudice and hate whenever and wherever it rears its ugly head.
