Single motor vehicle crashes in Hallowell lead to impaired charges for two drivers

A pair of allegedly impaired motorists have court dates in October after being tracked down and charged by members of Ontario Provincial Police this weekend.

On Saturday shortly before 4:30 p.m., officers from the Prince Edward detachment responded to a single motor vehicle collision in a parking lot where a vehicle had struck a rock barricade. 

Officers located the vehicle in the parking lot of a business on County Road 1 in Hallowell Ward and spoke to the driver. 

As a result of further investigation, the driver was arrested and taken to detachment for testing. Lorna Counsell, 45, from Toronto, was arrested and charged with:  Operation While Impaired – 320.14(1)(a) and Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) – 320.14(1)(b)

The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on October 21, 2020. The driver was also given a 90 day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

On Friday morning shortly after 4 a.m., officers responded to a single motor vehicle collision. 

Officers located the vehicle on the millennium trail West of Bloomfield. As a result of further investigation, the driver was arrested and taken to detachment for testing. Jacob Boone, 18, from Prince Edward County, was arrested and charged with:  Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) – 320.14(1)(b)

The driver was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on October 21, 2020. The driver was also given a 90 day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

•Earlier last week, OPP charged a Picton man with sexual assault and voyeurism. 

On Friday September 11, 2020, shortly after 11:00 a.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Prince Edward County Detachment received a report of a sexual assault that had previously occurred at an address in Picton.

The Prince Edward County OPP Crime Unit conducted an investigation and as a result, a 28 year old male from Picton has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences: Sexual assault – CC 217 and Voyeurism – CC 162(1)

The accused was released and is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton at a later date. The name of the accused will not been released in order to protect the identity of the victim.
