In a press release on March 30, 2020 the provincial government asked community organizations like Community Care to help with the coordination of needed services for seniors.
This included delivery of meals (Meals on Wheels), medicines and other necessities to seniors and also to mobilize volunteer support in the community to address social isolation and support daily living assistance. In response to this, Community Care established a grocery delivery program for seniors who need such support.
Call the office at 613-476-7493 and leave a voicemail with your name, number and what you need. A staff member will call you back. We can help with online or email ordering as well. And…Community Care will also arrange to deliver your medicines, other essentials, and library books. During the pandemic we have ramped up delivery of Meals on Wheels in The County. Hot and frozen meals can be delivered to the door of seniors up to 5 days a week anywhere in Prince Edward. Just call and ask. This service is there to help seniors live – safely – at home.
To address the loneliness and isolation that the pandemic has caused we have also expanded our offerings of both online and telephone active living programs. Webinars are offered on a broad range of topics. This month we’re launching “tea parties” and “craft events” as well. These will be both online and on the phone. Supplies will be provided. This is all free for the asking for seniors 60+. What are you waiting for? Give us a call so we can offer to you this great alternative to watching TV while you’re staying safe at home.
We’ve also moved the 55 Alive Mature Driver Refresher Course online. It will be held two consecutive Tuesdays from 9am to noon starting on Tuesday, January 19th. You’ll learn from our new instructor David Fox. Call for more information. Don’t delay as there are only 2 spots left in this course.
Have you heard that Bill Grieve, the chef of Wheelhouse and Occasions Catering, will be preparing roast beef with Yorkshire Pudding for curbside pick-up on Thursday, January 28th? This meal also includes homemade soup, roast beef with horseradish, potatoes, vegetables and Marni’s famous pie. The cost is only $15.00/meal and seniors 60+ can order by calling the Community Care office. All meals must be paid for in advance. To order, or for more information, call 613-476-7493.
Orders will be taken until Monday January 25th. A big thank you to Community Care’s amazing volunteers who are ready and willing to assist with helping seniors live at home. These caring people help all the time and their efforts are appreciated…especially during this pandemic.
