Construction season is underway.

Committee of the whole supported awarding a pair of tenders for road work during last Thursday’s meeting.

Councillors supported awarding a tender for the rehabilitation of a 3.5-kilometre section of Wilson Road to Tim Donaldson Excavating Ltd. in the amount of $959,848.36 plus applicable taxes. The work would run 3.5 kilometres along Wilson Road east to Hwy. 62. A 3.5-kilometre section of the road was previously rehabilitated in 2017 and this would complete that work. A report presented to committee says the portion of the road that has not been rehabilitated is generally in very poor condition. The company offered the lowest out of six bids received. Funding in the amount of $2,013,900 for the work was included in the 2018 budget.

The committee also supported awarding an $882,357.42-tender to Fidelity Engineering & Construction Inc. for a 2.6-kilometre section of County Rd. 1 running from Palmer-Burris Road west to County Rd. 33. Fidelity offered the lowest bid out of four received. A total of 4 kilometres of County Rd.1 have been rehabilitated with construction taking place in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. The work began 400 metres east of Melville Road. The 2018 capital budget includes $1,500,000 for the project.

The agreements will still have to be approved by council at their May 22 meeting.
