Letter: Current hospital building could be re-used

I think that demolishing the current hospital building is a waste of a sound reusable building? Note that Pinecrest School will be re-used for affordable housing.

We would pay a significant amount for demolition, cleanup, and disposal. Why not repurpose most of the current hospital building structure? It has all the infrastructure of heat, water, elevators, safety exits, et cetera. Please remember that the old Hill Street hospital was converted to a nursing home.

However, current regulations most likely eliminate that option for repurposing. This is only an idea at this stage but it should be investigated before demolition plans are finalized.

As a major part of the investigation, I recommend our municipality consider that another of the 444 municipalities in Ontario probably has relevant experience. No need to re-invent the wheel.
