Prince Edward County now officially has a Probus Club and it will star its activities with considerable membership support.
At the club’s charter meeting last Thursday, some 88 members signed on for the organization, named after an acronym for “professional” and “business.”
Probus Canada treasurer Jamie Doolittle was the guest speaker at the meeting. He noted the Prince Edward County club is the 246th in Canada and is one of over 5,000 clubs worldwide. There are over 36,500 members in Canada alone.
The primary goal of the club is fellowship. Unlike service clubs, it does not fundraise. Instead, its membership of retired and semi-retired people will gather to socialize, take part in activities and have fun. The club will have a meeting with a guest speaker once monthly and will stage other ongoing activities. Those interested in more information about the club are asked to e-mail countyprobus@gmail.com.
