Info For Seniors: County Seniors Centre programs progressing

Things have really been moving along since Community Care launched the County Seniors Centre in July. Through this new initiative Community Care offers several programs that address the need for seniors to have social and recreational activities close to where they live. Membership in the County Seniors Centre is $25 per year per person.

Programming to date includes yoga in Ameliasburgh Town Hall; meditation in the Picton Town Hall; games and cards in the Bloomfield Town Hall; Fitness 4 Seniors in Bloomfield hall as well; and a writing memoirs workshop in the Hillier Town Hall. We’re also having Tai Chi beginner and intermediate classes in the Community Care office (there’s a wall of mirrors that’s very helpful); Wii bowling league in Picton, and the walking programs at the Wellington and District Community Centre and PECI. More programs are being set up all the time.

For a membership application and a full schedule of upcoming social and recreational programming see the special page on the website at www.communitycareforseniors.org, like the Facebook page (search for County Seniors Centre), drop in at 74A King Street in Picton, or call 613-476-7493.

Volunteer jobs available

If you’re interested in meeting new people and having fun then volunteering in Community Care’s Thrift Shop might be just the spot for you. Most volunteers give three hours a week to the effort and with everyone’s participation it works well. New volunteers have a fun orientation of three hours and then are paired with a long-serving volunteer for a couple of shifts. Call 613-476-7493 and start the conversation about volunteering at the thrift shop. People with a special interest in prints and artwork or in jewellery are especially needed at this time. All are welcome, however.

Helping seniors live at home

Community Care offers practical help to support the choice to live at home. Meals, drives to medical appointments, care of the feet, home maintenance, and many other practical needs can be fulfilled through a call to Community Car at 613-476-7493. Call today and see what’s available.
