Info For Seniors: Seniors Fair Nov. 1 offers a full schedule

We have a full schedule of fabulous presentations coming up at the Seniors Fair Nov. 1. There will be opening remarks at 10 a.m. followed by a joint presentation on falls prevention by the Victorian Order of Nurses and Hastings Prince Edward Public Health.

Next up, at 11 a.m., is a session on Nutrition for Seniors by the dietitian from the Prince Edward Family Health Team. Following that will be an overview of the Frauds and Scams that target seniors presented by the Prince Edward OPP. Lunch will be enjoyed from 12-1 p.m.

After lunch the fire prevention officer, Mike Branscombe, will talk about fire safety for seniors. Hastings and Prince Edward Public Health will share loads of information on ticks and lyme disease and how to protect yourself. The South East Regional Cancer Program is on deck at 2 p.m. to discuss cancer screening and prevention. Elder Abuse Ontario will talk about the many forms of elder abuse at 2:30 p.m.

Fitness Powers will lead everyone in a short fitness break at 11:45am, 1pm and 2:45pm. The Canadian Hearing Society will have five time slots for people to sign up and meet with the Hearing Care Counsellor for private and confidential hearing tests. All the while the above is happening there will be 50 vendors on site to tell you all about the services that are available for seniors. And to top it all off the big fire truck will be in the parking lot for seniors to have a close up look.

The Seniors Information and Active Living Fair is being held at the Wellington and District Community Centre from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fair is free for all and there will be door prizes, too.

The County Seniors Centre is offering this fair and has arranged for free transportation for County seniors. Just call the office at 613-476-7493 and arrange to have the Prince Edward Specialized Transit bus pick you up at your door. Driving your own car? There’s free parking and lots of it.
