Cared for at the end by his loving children, Bert Veenstra passed away on June 23, 2019. Bert is survived and will be missed by his children Brian Veenstra (Denise), Linda Poole, Barbara Veenstra (Stephen Edey), Theresa Brennan (Frank), Arlene Black (Dave), and Kelly Miller (Murray); his 15 grandchildren and 4 great grand-children. Predeceased by his long-time partner, Diane Way. Dear brother of Gail, Harm and Walter and predeceased by siblings Betty, Harry and Arnold. A special thanks for the support and great care provided to Bert in his last years and days by the wonderful staff of H.J. McFarland Home, Picton. Bert was born in Buitenpost, Holland to Johannes and Geertje Veenstra (nee Dykstra) on June 11, 1934 and immigrated to Prince Edward County in April 1948. As an adult, he worked at the GM plant in Oshawa but you can’t keep a farmer off the farm so he moved back to The County and seldom left it thereafter. Bert had a long life filled with the things he loved most: family, friends, farming, gardening, and woodcutting. You never left a visit with Bert without some produce from his garden or a bottle of his stewed tomatoes. And you never visited him without butter tarts to share. Thanks Dad for your gentle nature and simple ways. You’ll always be remembered and loved. Cremation has taken place and a graveside ceremony will transpire at a later date. Donations will gratefully be accepted to Camp Trillium (formerly Garrett’s Island) and the Alzheimer’s Society.
