Info for Seniors: Seeking volunteers for the Seniors Centre

Did you know that Community Care operates the County Seniors Centre?

On July 27, 2018 The Prince Edward County Community Care for Seniors Association established the County Seniors Centre with the support of County Council, the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility, membership fees and local fundraising.

Programming for seniors 60+ is offered in 9 Town Halls and the Community Care office in Picton.

Autumn is around the corner and the staff at Community Care have many new County Seniors Centre presentations and series planned.

We need your assistance and participation to make our second year as successful as year one.

If you enjoy social and informative situations and you like to be busy and helpful then we need you to help with the programming in the Town Halls.

People who volunteer to help with County Senior Centre programming require their own transportation so they can get to the Town Halls scattered around Prince Edward County.

The volunteers arrive at the hall a half hour prior to an event, assist with getting the room set up for whatever activity is about to happen, set out the refreshments (coffee, tea, water, cookies, etc.), welcome participants and take attendance.

Sometimes we ask the volunteer to introduce and thank the presenter.

The volunteer is last to leave and makes sure that the hall is locked up.  An orientation is provided and staff give all volunteers all the details in advance.

You can count on the fact that we’re pretty organized here at Community Care.

This is a great volunteer opportunity for people who don’t wish to always drive into town to volunteer.

You can specify which hall(s) you’re interested in helping us with.  Or, better yet, volunteer to help at events/activities in any hall and see the County!

Our goal is to assign two volunteers to each location each time we have something on the go.

This would be a good volunteer activity for couples or friends who wish to volunteer together.

Get involved, get active, make friends, be well. Give us a call at Community Care to start the conversation about volunteering.

We have this and many other volunteer opportunities available right now.

Programs, services and activities always ramp up in the fall so contact us today and we’ll book an appointment for you to meet with a Co-ordinator.
