Cynthia Peters knows her way around her 1830’s farmhouse kitchen in Hillier.

She’s celebrating her 10th anniversary of providing hands-on cooking classes in Prince Edward County with a generous gift that supports the renovation and expansion of the historic Picton Library.

As a personal chef, food writer and owner of From The Farm Cooking School, Cynthia is passionate about food and well-being.

The anonymous donor who pledged up to $50,000 for the “Love Your Library” October matching donation challenge inspired Cynthia to donate. Cynthia shares, “I wanted to make a corporate donation to a local institution in recognition of my company’s 10 years of business in the community. Making this donation now is doubling its impact with the matching funds challenge. I encourage all small businesses to make a donation this month. It’s a great way to give back – the Picton library touches everyone.”

Cynthia is an avid cookbook collector.

Her From The Farm library is extensive, with more than 600 cookbooks featuring cuisines from around the globe. Libraries have always been an important part of her life and she fondly recalls receiving her first library card and checking out her very first books as a child.

As a lifelong library lover, the opportunity to double her donation to restore and expand Picton Library captured Cynthia’s attention. She notes, “The Picton Library is a central hub for life-long learning and a gathering spot for all ages. I’ve always believed in personal growth through education at every decade of life. It’s part of what makes life exciting. The expansion will provide even more opportunities for our changing demographics.” Her closest Prince Edward County public libraries are in Picton and Wellington. “This past year, I’ve really enjoyed the French language conversational CD collection from the Picton library. I’ve learned on the road by playing them in my car while driving around the County” Cynthia comments.

Until October 31st, donations to the Picton Library expansion are being doubled. “Individual and corporate donors like Cynthia Peters of From The Farm Cooking School are inspiring people across the County to donate.” says Devon Jones, Chair of the County of Prince Edward Public Library Board. “We are so thankful for Cynthia’s support. We’re also excited that every $50 ticket sold to Comedy Night on Sunday, October 27 featuring Taste That! The County’s Artisanal Comedy Troupe and The Frere Brothers will be matched by the donor challenge.”
