Sir John A. Macdonald’s Canadian-sculpted statue invites the viewer to learn, analyze, evaluate.
A teachable moment.
There are plenty of targets for righteous indignation in the world right now. Human trafficking, slavery, Native injustices, opioid pushers, antisemitism, gay-bashing, subjugation of women….. No need to look back almost 200 years and attack a person who acted in accordance with the mores of the times, and the people who elected him.
Canada’s first Prime Minister launched his career in our town — and the statue is doing its job by drawing attention to this fact.
