Alan Hazell passed away at the age of 84 on January 28th at Hallowell House. Loving husband of June Hazell for 45 years, he will be dearly missed. Also mourned by his brother John (Corinne) Hazell, uncle of Richard (Susan) Hazell and Wayne (Yvy), brother-in-law of Marilyn (Walter) Whiteley and Susan (Jim) Attenborough, uncle of Jonathan (Aleks) Whiteley and Gavin (Kate) Whiteley. Formerly of Scarborough, Alan taught elementary school for 32 years. During that time, he was active in Toronto Brigantine Incorporated, fostering their motto of “Building Character Through Adventure”. Alan also supported youth at risk by working as a Volunteer Probation Officer and at Clifton House for Boys. His mentoring was instrumental in providing guidance and shaping their young lives. After retirement, Alan was an enthusiastic director and dedicated actor at Mount Tabor with the Marysburgh Mummers. He prepared and directed the Mummers’ Children’s Drama Workshops’ another avenue to help young people practise working co-operatively and build their self-confidence. Cremation has taken place. An occasion for family and friends to celebrate Alan’s life will be announced in the spring.
