A woman remains in Kingston General Hospital after a violent assault in Picton on Saturday.

On Feb. 8, 2020 at approximately 3:00 p.m. officers with the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a serious assault.

Officers attended Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital, where the victim was being treated. The woman was later airlifted to a Kingston hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A 52-year old male from Picton was arrested a short time later and has been charged under the Criminal Code (CC) with:

•Aggravated assault – CC 268

•Disobeying order of the court- CC 127

The name of the accused will not be released in order to protect the identity of the victim. T

he investigation remains ongoing with members of the Prince Edward OPP Crime Unit, East Region Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB). The accused was remanded in custody until a scheduled appearance this week at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville.
