There were some cute pups and cats in the library’s last staff meeting!

We don’t normally take our pets to work, but this time we conducted our meeting via videoconference from home. Given that library staff have a range of levels of experience with video chatting, as well as different technology (including iPads, iPhones, and laptops), we had a bit of a learning curve but we were able to make it work – it’s not as hard as you might think!

During the call we updated each other on the programs and services will be launching in order to best serve you during this time the library is closed. Watch our website at or call (613) 476-5962. I know that we are not the only group that has moved our communication online while we cannot get together in person.

If a group you’re involved with is interested in videoconferencing, our tech team Michele, Dave and Aaron can help! There are a number of services available for free or at low cost, and it can sometimes be hard to know which provides the best solution for your needs. If you are a group that routinely has your meetings at the library, we will be in touch to ask if we can help you. Similarly, if you are accessing the library’s ebooks, audio books, language learning or video streaming and need help, call us.

We recognize that rural internet is not always sufficient for videoconferencing, so please note that WIFI is still available at every branch of the library if you want to sit outside and use your device, respecting physical distancing. FUNctional Fitness, a chair-based exercise program, usually meets at the Picton Branch Library but is now meeting online on Tuesday and Thursdays at 11 a.m., using the videoconference service Zoom as well as streaming on the library’s Facebook page at If you are interested in participating but need help, please reach out to the tech team and they will be happy to assist.

We have recently added a new way to connect with us. If you are on our website, you will see a chat box on the right side of your screen that says “Live support”.

We are available Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to answer your questions. You can ask about the library’s services, registering for a library card, accessing our online programs and more.

Please note: The library does not charge late fees. If you have library items checked out, we encourage you to keep them until we are able to open again. Dropboxes are still available at every branch of the library if you do need to return items.
