Info For Seniors
Usually I have lots of great events to list for you. Times when you can get in your car and go to be with other people in a group setting to enjoy some entertainment, food or fun…and sometimes all three.
The pandemic has caused many changes and that’s one of them. Now we offer those great events but they are online or on your phone. You need to bring your own food. And Community Care will even help you order that food (groceries) and will pick it up and deliver it to you, too. All this is for free for seniors. And it’s all in an effort to help people who make the choice to self-isolate in the safety of their home. Everyone is welcome.
So, what’s coming up during the month of June? This is Seniors’ Month in Ontario so we have a great line up of online webinars for you to get involved in. We’ll even provide you with help to get set up online. All webinars require preregistration.
On Thursday, June 4 we have “Accessing Library Services from Home” with Liz Zylstra, from the County of Prince Edward Library. The following Tuesday, on June 9 you can participate in “An Introduction to Living Well Self-Management Programs” with Kerry Ford, Prince Edward Family Health Team & Danielle Deptuck, Living Well Self-Management SE ON. On Thursday, June 11 the topic is “Effective Communication with Older Adults” with Alana DeVille, Canadian Hearing Services. The next week, on Thursday, June 18 you can “Explore the PEC Archives” with Molly McGowan, from the County of Prince Edward Public Library Archives. And finally, on Thursday, June 25 we’re having Danielle Deptuck back to share with you ”An Introduction to How to get the Most out of your Medical Appointment”.
We also offer what we’re calling “County Chats”. These events are group chats entirely on the telephone. Up to 15 people can participate. We have a guest speaker and lots of time for questions and conversation. It’s a different experience when there are several other people on the line at once. Sort of a “party line” but with extra people!
Topics for June are as follows. June 5 we’ll hear about “Spring Bird Arrivals” with Naturalist Terry Sprague. On June 12 the topic is “Library Services from Home” with Liz Zylstra from County of Prince Edward Public Library. Then on June 19 you can “Take a Stroll in Glenwood Cemetery” with Sandra Latchford, Board Chair Glenwood Cemetery Company. And finally, on June 26 we’ll have OPP Const. Aaron Miller talk about “Current Frauds and Scams”.
We’re also holding Virtual Tag Days for the entire month of June. This is an important fundraiser for Community Care but it can’t be held in the usual way. Check our website for the details and please give generously to help seniors live at home.
