Impaired drivers and a plane crash kept members of the Prince Edward County OPP detachment busy this weekend.
In the early morning hours of Friday, the OPP received a report of a possible impaired driver. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on County Road 22 in Hallowell Ward. As a result of the investigation, the driver was arrested and taken to detachment for testing.
Jared Peak, 26 from Nepean, Ontario has been charged with the following offences: Operation While Impaired – 320.14(1)(a) and Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) – 320.14(1)(b)
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date in Picton. He was also given a 90 day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
In the afternoon just before 1:30 p.m., officers from the Prince Edward County Detachment responded with other emergency crews to a report of a plane crash in Sophiasburgh Ward.
Officers located the aircraft in a farmer’s field near Elmbrook Road.
A 69-year-old male pilot from Leeds and the Thousand Islands Township was transported to Prince Edward County Memorial with minor injuries. Earlier in the day, the aircraft had conducted an emergency landing in the field after losing power. The aircraft attempted a take-off and lost power shortly thereafter, crashing into the field.
Notifications were made to Transport Canada as well as the Transportation Safety Board.
The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Prince Edward County Detachment arrested an impaired driver overnight Sunday.
On Sunday July 26, 2020 shortly before 4:00 a.m. officers responded to assist Sandbanks Provincial Park Wardens who had stopped a vehicle in the park and arrested a driver for suspected impaired operation of a vehicle. As a result of the investigation, the driver was arrested and taken to detachment for testing.
Henry Schneider , 28, from Prince Edward County, was arrested and charged with: Operation While Impaired – 320.14(1)(a), Operation While Impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) – 320.14(1)(b)

The previous evening, shortly after 9:00 p.m., officers observed a vehicle stopped on the side of County Road 1 in Hillier Ward with two individuals urinating in the ditch. Upon speaking with the driver, a 28 year old male from Mississauga had his driving privileges suspended for seven days under the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) as a result of an “Alert” reading on the approved screening device.
On Sunday afternoon just before 5:30 p.m., members from the Prince Edward County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment conducted a traffic stop on Highway 62 in Sophiasburgh Ward. After speaking with the driver and further investigation, the driver was arrested and taken to detachment for testing.
Madison Campbell, 31 from Etobicoke, Ontario has been charged with operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code.
The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date in Picton. The accused was also given a 90 day Administrative Driver’s Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
