Community Care carries on despite pandemic

This latest lockdown brings yet another challenge to the staff and volunteers at Community Care.

We are fully committed to helping seniors live at home. And to live safely at home. There are lots of things that we have on the go to make this a reality for seniors. Our programs support all seniors, regardless of income level. There are low client fees for some services. And, if a person can’t pay the client fee then the agency – confidentially – reduces or waives the client fee. Nobody knows if that has been done. Only required staff know and the importance of confidentiality at Community Care is closely guarded.

So, these things are “on” right now for ALL seniors 60+: drives to get your vaccination or to go to a medical appointment.

There are still seniors 80+ who are not yet vaccinated. If getting there is the barrier then we’ve got you covered. Book your vaccination then call us and we’ll get you there. It’s best if you don’t go in the grocery store unless absolutely essential. We have volunteers who will help you order online (or by email) and will pick up and deliver your groceries. We do this for free. Doesn’t matter where in The County you live. We’ve got you covered. Feeling low? Are things looking gloomy for you? Book one of our online webinars or telephone chats (no computer needed) and get connected.

We have webinars on such a wide variety of topics that you’ll be amazed. Once you sign up you have the event to look forward to. After the event there’s something to talk about. What’s better than that!?

We also have the best and friendliest volunteers who are willing to chat with people a few times a week. Think of it as a win-win – you benefit and so do they. Thinking about how to get your Income Tax done? We’ve got you covered for that, too. Our volunteers have been trained by CRA. We can even pick up your papers, do the tax return, and bring your papers back to you. That’s all done in a contactless way. Safety is our concern here at Community Care.

Hungry? Have hot or frozen Meals on Wheels delivered right to your door. The menu is broad, the meals are tasty and nutritious. The volunteers who deliver are amazing. Those delivery volunteers can make sure that you get one of the Ham & Scalloped Potato meals we’re serving up on April 22nd. The meal is $15 and you need to order by April 19th. Many seniors pick up their meal but if you can’t do that then delivery will be arranged.

At the time of writing this column the Foot Care Clinics held in Picton and Wellington are still a go but don’t come early for your appointment!
