Early morning warrant leads to cocaine charges

An early morning raid In Picton on Wednesday by members of the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), the East Region Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), the East Region Canine Unit, the East Region Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) as well as the OPP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) has led to drug charges against two Prince Edward County residents.

As a result of the warrant executed by local police, officers seized a cell phone, a quantity of suspected cocaine and a quantity of currency.

Dorothy Spiers, 47, and Christopher McCall, 50, both of Prince Edward County were arrested and charged with possession of a schedule one substance for the purpose of trafficking cocaine contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Both individuals were released on a promise to appear and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on July 14, 2021.

In other OPP news:

A conducted energy device also commonly known as a taser was required to quell a suspect after a collision on Beach Street earlier this week.

On Tuesday May 25, 2021 shortly before 5:00 p.m. OPP responded to a report of a vehicle colliding with a stop sign and nearly striking pedestrians on Beach Street in Wellington.

OPP arrived on scene and located the vehicle and driver. The driver was taken into police custody and in the process, a conducted energy weapon was deployed. As a result, Andrew McCartney, 35 from Prince Edward County was charged with the following criminal offences:

·        Dangerous operation – 320.13(1)

·        Assault with intent to resist arrest – 270(1)(b)

The individual was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Picton on June 30.
