James Hartford passed away suddenly on Nov 11th. He deeply touched the people in so many communities he was involved in. We are humbled by the outpouring of support and help from all. Jim is survived by his wife, Lynn Stein, his parents, Betty and Leo Hartford, brother Paul (& Lisa), sisters Anne (& Tom), and Patricia (& Larry), aunts and uncles, countless cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Jim has loved The County since he was a little boy at the family cottage in Northport. As a young man he and his parents, worked together in their sign installation and manufacturing business in Toronto. Lynn joined the company in 1979, Jim and Lynn’s real estate career began in 1991, in The Beaches in Toronto. A year of sailing their boat south, led them, and Betty and Leo, all to come back to the place they loved… The County, settling on Big Island in 2005. So many adventures. He Iived life to the full.
The Big Island farm has been so wonderful. He and his dad worked together to fix the house, and barn and lands. Betty made beautiful gardens. Soon came dogs and cats, horses, donkeys, geese, ducks and chickens. Jim loved the farm life, the animals, building things, this community and the amazing neighbours and friends.
His great pride was our company, Hartford and Stein Group and building an amazing young team. He felt like they were his children and he was so proud of their success.
There will be a small celebration of life at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to the Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre in Napanee, or a charity of your choice.
