Todd Smith’s infomercial in last week’s paper (Winding down White Pines, others saved $790 million, The Picton Gazette, Nov. 25, 2021) was informative for what it didn’t say as well as what it said.
First, if the $790 million number is correct, how much was spent in compensation for the cancelled contracts?
Second, how much was lost by green energy companies who had invested in labour & equipment? The Canadian Solar Industries Association has estimated about 6,000 job losses & maybe $500 million in forgone investment but in fairness, this estimate dates back to 2018. Knowing how the government likes to put their best foot forward, one should be skeptical of Mr Smith’s rosy statement.
