Did you know that 2022 is the Year of the Garden?
In celebration of the centennial of the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association, as well as in recognition of the many benefits of gardening, the Year of the Garden was recognized federally through a declaration in the House of Commons. Whether you are a seasoned pro or a “newbie”, there is always something new to learn about growing a great garden. Gail White of the Prince Edward Master Gardeners will join us, via Zoom, on Thursday, March 31 at 2 p.m. Her talk is entitled “How to Have a Great Garden with Less Work” and all are welcome to join. Who doesn’t want to spend more time enjoying the garden and less time working in it?
On Thursday, April 7 at 2 p.m., Colette McKinnon, also a Master Gardener, will share information about Compost and Soil – The Building Blocks of a Healthy Garden. Creating healthy soil and using compost will help your garden grow it’s best! If you need help with Zoom or are interested in joining from a computer within the library, give us a call at (613) 476-5962 and we will help you.
Through March Break, Gisa at the Consecon and Ameliasburgh branches of the Library handed out dozens of seed kits to enthusiastic young future gardeners! The kits included colouring books with a gardening theme, seeds and more. Thanks to Bev Marr for sewing the beautiful bags items were distributed in. Master Gardeners of Prince Edward County would like to encourage and support children in the garden this summer. Children between the ages of 6 and 12 can participate in their garden contest. All contestants will have access to a Master Gardener, and on completion of the season receive acknowledgement for their efforts. The Master Gardeners have some special prizes set aside for the best gardens. For more information go to their website pecmastergardeners.ca
