Prince Edward County resident Michel Bérubé and his new three piece band ‘The French Connection’ will be playing at The Regent Theatre this coming June.
Singing in English and French with vintage visual imaging, Bérubé provides a musical storytelling of French songs made famous in English by the likes of Neil Diamond, Tony Bennet, Bobby Darren, Michel Legrand and Frank Sinatra and will be taking place on June 11.
“The concept of the show is quite simple,” Bérubé said to The Gazette. “Many, many hits in english that people know were first big french classics so many, many of these big songs were big french classics. In the show we have a lot of visual footage and I tell stories about the songs and when it was written. Many songs during the show I don’t perform but we have videos of them.”
The French Connection includes Ross Wooldridge, Musical Director on piano and clarinet, John Lettieri on keyboards and accordion and Lewis Mele on upright bass and bass guitar.
Bérubé has performed at Jazz Festivals, Casino Rama and New York City’s famed Town Hall. He has recorded duets with the legendary Chrissie Hynde and Jennifer Warnes. Bérubé has toured with Warnes and holds the distinction of being the only singer, other than Joe Cocker, to ever sing the iconic duet “Up Where We Belong” with Jennifer.
“My last time on stage was in October 2019 and next months show will be the first time since then playing a show, so it’s pretty exciting!” expressed Bérubé. “When I’m on stage I just love it truly, I hope we’ll have a big turnout with lots of people. I started to sing when I was so young and all I wanted to do was be on stage in front of people and as far as I can remember that’s what I wanted to do. When I get in the theatre I’m the happiest man on earth, I just love to be on stage or back stage I just love it. This has been a passion for so long and I’m very dedicated to it.”
