Community Care needs volunteers to help in the Thrift Shop at 153 Main St. in Picton. This shop is a 4,000 square foot retail operation run entirely by volunteers. If you have 3 hours per week (10am – 1pm or 1pm – 4pm) then give Community Care a call. No experience is necessary. A full orientation is offered. There are always experienced volunteers on site. It’s like Christmas every day when you open boxes from the donors. The unexpected could become your everyday experience.
Friendly visiting volunteers are needed to visit seniors on the phone. The time commitment is one hour/week. Staff carefully match volunteers with a senior that they will call regularly just to visit. To find out more or to volunteer call 613-476-7493 and start the conversation.
Community Care offers an escorted transportation program that helps to maximize the independence of seniors who need a ride to medical appointments and to do essential shopping. We look for caring and friendly volunteer drivers who are willing to take the time to get to know the seniors that they drive. This program provides rides for seniors 60+ to medical appointments wherever they need to go including local or to destinations further away. Drivers can choose whether they do local rides, longer distance rides, or both. The fee is reasonable for the clients and is based on .50/km which is a help to cover the expenses of the volunteer. This is a one-to-one service and the volunteer driver waits with the client while they are in the appointment. Volunteer drivers are needed with a particular focus at this time on providing local rides for seniors in Picton. Volunteers are contacted by agency staff 2-3 days in advance of a drive. Same-day rides are not provided.
Call 613-476-7493 to start the conversation about volunteering. If you enjoy a fast pace in a changing environment the Community Care reception desk might be for you. Three hours a week is all it takes to get involved in this volunteer position. Reception volunteers answer the phone, make appointments and assist with filing and other office tasks. It’s a lively place at Community Care and orientation is provided with staff support readily available. Contact Community Care about any of these volunteer positions. We also have many other volunteer openings that aren’t described above.
