Police looking for the public’s help in north County sexual assault investigation

Members of the Prince Edward County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are asking for the public’s assistance in an investigation into an alleged sexual assault that took place sometime on earlier this month.

On Tuesday May 9, 2023 shortly before 10:30 p.m., officers were conducting a RIDE program on Highway 62 near Rossmore when they observed a vehicle that appeared to avoid officers.

A traffic stop was conducted and an officer observed an incapacitated female passenger in distress. Further investigation led to the arrest of the driver.

A 23 year old from Belleville was charged with sexual assault.

The investigation remains ongoing. Police are looking for anyone who may have seen a dark coloured sedan in the area on Tuesday May 9, 2023 between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
