February 27–March 13
1–5pm
This hands-on workshop invites participants to explore rust, textiles, and material transformation using found and foraged materials. Those who have taken previous Rust Lab workshops are welcome to continue and deepen their investigations, while newcomers will be guided step-by-step through the process!
Grounded in surface design, place-based practice, and experimental process, participants will work with salvaged metal, cloth, and paper to create expressive, process-driven works. Through demonstration and hands-on experimentation of safe rust-dyeing methods and creative experimentation, participants will learn how to coax marks, textures, and patterns from the interaction between metal, moisture, and fabric.
This workshop celebrates curiosity, storytelling, and connection to local materials. Each participant will leave with unique, hand-dyed pieces that document process, place, and transformation, along with ideas for incorporating rust and textile techniques into their own artistic practice. Suitable for beginners and those with prior rust-dyeing experience!
Age range – 18+
