Arts
September 27–28
1–4pm
In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore rust and textile techniques using found and foraged materials from Prince Edward County. Led by artist instructor Claire Tallarico of Alchemy Artist Residency, and guided by principles of surface design, material transformation, and place-based practice, we’ll work with salvaged metal objects, cloth, and paper to create expressive, process-driven works. Through the demonstration of safe rust-dyeing methods and creative experimentation, participants will learn how to coax marks, textures, and patterns from the interaction between metal, moisture, and fabric.
This workshop invites curiosity, storytelling, and a deeper connection to local materials. Each participant will have ample opportunity in the workshops to create their own unique, hand-dyed pieces that document time, place, and process and learn how to incorporate these mediums and techniques into their practices.
