A screenplay is a succinct blueprint created to tell a story for film or television. But it must first come alive on the page! Join professional screenwriter, Laura Seaton, for this exciting course and learn how to use image, dialogue, direction, and the blank space in-between to take the reader on a journey of your design. Learn the fundamentals of screenwriting, then push your creative limits and create a bold and experiential short screenplay that is as engaging on the page as it will be on the screen.
Over five weeks, students of all writing levels are invited to learn the fundamentals of screenwriting. We will share and experiment with our perceptions of this storytelling craft, and stretch our imaginations to create unique short screenplays (5-25 pages). We’ll deconstruct scenes from our favourite movies or TV shows, look at screenwriting examples, and see how ideas transform from the page to the screen. By sharing our ideas and writing with the class, we’ll learn to creatively and constructively collaborate, as well as hone our own personal styles. At the end of this course, participants will have a completed short screenplay that reflects their creative voice and screenwriting style, along with a new appreciation for an often overlooked art.
For ages 18+. A sliding scale fee system is in place to ensure accessibility.
This is a 5 week course taking place on Wednesday afternoons from 2 PM – 4 PM, October 30th to November 27th 2024
