Ann Elisabeth Vincent (née Dawson) died suddenly at her home in Picton on Sunday, October 25, 2026, just days before her 95th birthday.
Ann was predeceased by her husband, P. Jeremy Vincent, and her son, Simon Vincent. She was the loving mother of Mark (Maggie) of Boulder, Colorado; Graham of Waupoos; and Karen Farr (Jamey) of Fernie, British Columbia, and mother-in-law of Jennifer Vincent of Wellington. She was a much-loved grandmother of seven grandchildren, Jeremy, Tessa, Sierra, Anders, Mariska, Isabelle and Sabrina.
Ann was also predeceased by her parents, Victor and Violet Dawson, and all of her siblings: Michael Dawson, Barbara Farrand and Carol Dampier. She will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews in the United Kingdom.
Born in Harrogate, England, Ann was a singular and independent woman who brought boundless energy to her younger years. A gifted athlete, she ranked second in Britain in the 800 metres before starting her family.
Her love of movement remained an enduring part of her life: she taught fitness classes throughout the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, and continued dancing into the early 1990s. In 1956, Ann and Jeremy emigrated from England to Canada, settling in New Brunswick, where they began their family. Nine years later, Jeremy’s work at Prince Edward Collegiate Institute brought them to Picton, which became their long-time home.
A voracious reader, Ann found lasting pleasure in books. She was an absolute whiz at crosswords, particularly cryptic ones, with their intricate clues and clever wordplay. Her independence, lively mind and unmistakable individuality were deeply her own. Her family will remember her with love, cherishing a lifetime of memories of a remarkable woman who lived life in her own way.
In keeping with Ann’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Private Graveside Service will be held in the family plot at Sophiasburgh Cemetery, Demorestville. If desired, donations in Ann’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
