Born in Stoco, Ontario, Doris enjoyed an accomplished career as a teacher starting at the age of 17 in a one-room schoolhouse in Jackson’s Falls (near Milford Ontario), then St. Barbara’s and finally at St. Gregory Catholic School in Picton. All told, when Doris retired she had amassed 43 years of teaching and had a tremendous and positive impact on innumerable students and their families. Doris loved music, children, travel, shopping and her Picton community, she will be missed by many close friends, and former students but especially by her friend Ernie Finkle who provided joyful companionship and accompanied her through her recent health struggles. Her family wishes to thank the staff of Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital in Picton for their exemplary and compassionate care. Doris is resting at the Burke Funeral Home, 150 Church Street, Belleville. A visitation will be held from 6-8pm Thursday, April 25 with a Funeral Mass of the Resurrection to follow Friday, April 26 at 11am at St. Joseph’s Church in Belleville with Father Rod McNeil presiding. If desired, donations can be made to Sleeping Children Around the World and the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Foundation.
