Garry Foster

passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 20th, 2024 following a struggle with cancer at the age of 87. For 60 years, Garry was the devoted husband of Vaunga (Brimley), who predeceased him in 2017. He will be dearly missed by his “#1 Son” Gregory Robert and Kim (Brooklin, ON). He was predeceased by his mother Agnes Mary Anderson, his father, Dunham Noxon Foster, as well as his siblings, Eleanor Parks (Ross), Dr. Paul Foster (Lois, of Belleville, ON), Barb McCreary (Garth), Noxon Foster (Shirley), Dr. Maurice Foster (Janet). He will be missed by his sisters-in-law, Marilyn Williams and Margaret Blakely, his many nieces and nephews and his dear friend, Marilyn Fox. Following his studies at the Ontario Agricultural College, Garry spent 35 years at the Lake Ontario Cement plant in Picton, retiring in 1993. For 66 years, he was a member of Prince Edward Lodge No. 18 A.A. & F.M., where he was a Past Master and served as Grand Steward in 2010. He was also a lifelong, active member in the Bloomfield United Church, the A.O.T.S, the Bloomfield Volunteer Fire Department and the Bloomfield Council.Garry enjoyed travelling, especially on cruises with Vaunga and their many friends. An avid golfer, he even got a hole-in-one on the second hole at the golf course in Picton. Garry was a very talented craftsman—in his workshop he could weld and bend metal like superman. In 1997, his new hobby became wine making. He excelled at this and his many visitors looked forward to tasting the fruits of his labour. Garry was an exceptionally loyal person and was always willing to help his family and friends. He had a great sense of humour and was best known for his sayings, “We’ll be suing ya!” and “Shoot yourself!”. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Bloomfield United Church (Church Hall located behind the church), 272 Main Street, Bloomfield, on Sunday, May 5th, 2024 at 1:30pm. Cremation is entrusted to the Steele Funeral Home, Belleville (613-968-2273) with inurnment to take place later this spring. If desired, Memorial Donations to the Bloomfield United Church would be appreciated by the family.
