Larry Spencer

April 22, 1945 - October 1, 2026

Larry passed away from cancer peacefully at Hospice Prince Edward. He was born in Simcoe, Ontario , the second child of Morrison and Isabel (Boughner) Spencer. He is survived by his beloved partner Barbara McMullen, children Adam, Megan (Steven) and Andrew and their mother, Gail Evans Spencer, brother Mike and sister- in- law Darlene, nephew Mike, nieces Shara and Kyra and grandchildren Oscar and Cedar. Predeceased by brothers Bud and David.
He is remembered with great affection by many friends, neighbours, extended family and community members.
Larry spent his career as a community planner, serving both private and public sectors, and was a member of the Canadian Institute of Planners. His passion for community and the arts drew him to serve as one of the founding members of the Baxter Arts Centre in Bloomfield, where he led a troop of volunteer ‘trolls’ in renovations to the building, creating a vibrant home for many forms of creative expression for all ages.
Creator of the “Good Times Toy Co.’ Larry shared his creative spirit, love of tradition and whimsy in his creation of fine wooden children’s toys of his own design. His joy in creating and sharing his love of play was palpable.

Larry was a passionate community builder, a patient, respectful listener with a marvellously sly, dry sense of humour. He was precise and thorough in his approach to just about everything. He was creative and curious. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren. He was known by many as a man of integrity, honesty and someone who could be relied upon.

Larry’s Celebration of Life will be held at the Baxter Arts Centre in Bloomfield on November 14 from 1-4pm. All are welcome.

Donations can be made to The Canadian Cancer Society, Baxter Arts Centre or Hospice Prince Edward.
