Lisa Claxton lived her life with passion, and with a deep commitment to people. She called Vancouver home for more than 40 years but maintained an abiding love of “the county”, returning regularly to Cherry Valley in Prince Edward County, Ontario, for time with her family.
Lisa ‘s career began at the Legal Services Society as an advocate assisting low income and marginalized people which led to volunteer work with numerous organizations. Lisa went on to become a lawyer to continue her service, practicing labour law with the BCGEU; in her last years with the union, she took on a human resources role before retiring in 2020.
Lisa was steadfast in her independence, the most loyal of people, and an advocate for social justice. She had a strong connection to others and always looked for ways to make their lives better, to acknowledge their challenges, and to celebrate their successes.
Halloween was Lisa’s favourite time of year, and she had a special connection with her beloved crows; both passions were lovingly reflected through original art.
Lisa loved her daily walks around the Stanley Park seawall; never passing a pup without saying hello, admiring the oyster catchers, herons and seals.
Loving daughter of Barbara Claxton (nee Greig) of Picton and the late Randil Claxton. Cherished sister of Geri Claxton of Cherry Valley, Rick (Rhonda) of Burlington, and Brett (Sue) of Abbotsford, British Columbia. Loving aunt of Andrew (Olivia), Taylore (Zach) and great aunt of Nathan and Lilli. Sadly missed by her dearest friends Lanny and Jeff, and by all of her devoted West Coast “family”.
The family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation to the care teams at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, and to Hospice Prince Edward, Picton, specifically Dr. Sarah Leblanc and Brad Gunn, NP, for their care and compassion during Lisa’s illness and her final days.
In keeping with Lisa’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Lisa’s Life along with the scattering of her ashes at Cherry Valley Cemetery will be held at a later date to be announced. If desired, donations to the Palliative Care Unit at St. Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver, or to Hospice Prince Edward would be appreciated by the family.
