It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Elizabeth Meder (nee McHale) on October 26th, 2026 at the age of 79, at the Belleville General Hospital after a very brief illness.
Beloved wife of Gordon for 57 years. Loving mother to Andrew and Karen (Chad). Cherished “Grammie” to Leah and Jaxon.
Big sister to Pamela and Peter (Dawn). Fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews, friends and community. Mary is predeceased by her parents, Gordon and June McHale.
Mary was born in England and immigrated to Canada as an infant. Her family settled in Montreal, where she became a very proud Canadian, while maintaining a strong love for her British roots.
After marrying her high school sweetheart, Gordon, they resided in both Montreal and Toronto before settling long-term in Prince Edward County to raise a family. In recent years, they made the move to Belleville for the ease of condo living in their retirement.
Working for many years as a librarian at the Bloomfield Library, followed by multiple schools within the Hastings and PE District School Board, Mary contributed to her community through her love of books.
Mary was an amazing cook, enjoyed many years tending to her gardens, and adored animals of all kinds.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Loyalist Humane Society, Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward, or The PEC Memorial Hospital Foundation in Mary’s honour.
Cremation has taken place, and as per Mary’s wishes, there will be no service.
