Surrounded by love and butterflies at the Hospice Niagara in Welland on July 9, at the age of 94 Morley Kitchen, originally from Picton passed away peacefully.
He is survived by his cherished wife Carol (nee Welsh) also of Picton, his daughter Susan, son Robert, grandchildren Brent and Meredith, son-in-law Paul and daughter-in-law Katie.
Morley was the third youngest of 8 and oldest surviving member of his large family. He grew up on a farm in Picton in Sandy Hook. Telling tales, his jokes and sense of humour brought laughter and smiles to many. True to his farming roots in PEC, he was known for generously sharing tomatoes or the giant dahlias he grew in his garden.
A kind man to his core, he conducted himself with integrity, honesty and thoroughness in every sphere of his life. A promise made was a promise kept.
In 1952 he joined the RCMP beginning a 22-year career that took him across Canada to the West Coast giving him a lifetime of friendships and stories. Sharing his favourite memories from his time in northern British Columbia including patrols to remote communities, protecting royal dignitaries and Prime Ministers, were all part of the job. After retiring, he returned to Ontario, and served as a Provincial Prosecutor with the Welland Crown Attorney’s Office and later in 1987 was appointed as a full-time presiding Justice of the Peace serving in the courthouses of the Niagara Region until 2000. He was proud to be a Brock University graduate (Sociology & Politics, 1984). His love of basketball and football began at Prince Edward Collegiate and continued as a loyal fan of the Brock Badgers basketball teams and the Hamilton Tiger Cats.
Morley will be interred at the Glenwood Cemetery in Picton on August 22 followed by a gathering of extended family members.
