Friday evening last was the occasion of what was doubtless the largest banquet ever held in this county, when the Prince Edward County officers and men of the 155th Battalion were entertained by the Town and County Councils.
When it became known that the 155th Battalion was soon to go overseas, the suggestion was made, and it seemed a most fitting one, that this banquet be held. Arrangements were accordingly made. The Armory was secured for the purpose and the furnishing of the supper was undertaken by Mr. N. Bailie, the well known baker and confectioner of the town of Picton.
Tables were set on the main floor of the Armory building, accommodations being provided for about four hundred and fifty. The tables used by the 80th Battalion, which were quartered in the Armory last winter, were utilized for the purpose as well as several additional tables secured for the occasion.
In undertaking to cater to this number of people Mr. Bailie had no small proposition ahead of him, but he succeeded most admirably. A supper was provided which left nothing to be desired in the way of variety or abundance.
The menu was a most excellent one consisting of different courses of meats, scalloped potatoes, baked beans, salads, pickles, pies, ice cream, fruit, etc. The tables were nicely decorated and menu cards provided designed with the flag of the Empire.
Nearly three hundred people sat down to the supper. Two complimentary tickets were furnished to every man in khaki, while the price for others was seventy-five cents a ticket. The gathering dispersed at about 10.30 p.m., after one of the most enjoyable events ever held in the town of Picton.
