Today is Surprise Day down at Exhibition Park where a rejuvenated, re-decorated Blue Sox baseball squad will open the 1936 local diamond season by endeavoring with all the power in their bats and arms to knock off this up and coming Cobourg squad and chalk up their first victory in the Lakeshore Loop.
You will be surprised when you see the line-up of the home-town crew. You will be surprised when you see the playing positions of some of the grizzled veterans, and you will be further surprised to see the fine array of rookie talent, 100 per cent home brew, that has been brought out of seclusion by the master minds of the squad.
Seventeen pewholders will be surprised when they discover themselves to be the recipients of a like number of gate prizes. Everything from a permanent wave (bald-pated fans not eligible) to a car greasing, with the merchants of the town again stepping into the breach to help the boys along.
You will be further surprised when you witness the agility and speed with which the new team desports itself. And you will be agreeably jolted when you hear the rattle of base-hits that, we hope, will bounce off their bludgeons. So in view of all these surprises, surprise the wife and yourself by taking her to the game this afternoon, then don’t be surprised if she wants to go again. Remember, the Blue Sox and Cobourg this afternoon. Go down there and root for the new edition of the Sox. Everybody’s going, why not you.
BOATING POPULAR ON LOCAL HARBOR
Picton harbour presented a very lively scene on Sunday afternoon, when many motor boats and sailing craft were noted on the water. A number of speed boats were trying out for their first run of the season. On Monday afternoon also, the harbour was well filled with small craft. There seems to be an ever-increasing interest in boats and boating—both motor and sail, around Picton, and the summer promises to see a number of fine craft in local waters. No definite plans have been laid as yet for the holding of a regatta here.
