On September 20, 2019,  Picton Golf & Country Club hosted the first annual Hospice Prince Edward Scramble.

In total, 23 teams participated in a fun tournament to raise funds for Hospice services.  The July like weather helped to make the day such a success.  

Ben Quaiff, Nathan and Curtis Stevenson and Tyler Bond were the low Men’s team, shooting 60.

Noreen and Dave MacKay and Joe and Rosemary Gillis shot 67 to win the prize for lowest Mixed Team while Val MacDonald, Pam Fairbank, Deb Lowry and Sue Grant took the low ladies team with a 72

Major sponsors for this event were Bay of Quinte Mutual Insurance, Joanne Coker and Peter Finnegan of BMO Nesbitt Burns, and Welch, LLP.   

All would agree that the memory lane signs lining the driveway of the course were the highlight of the day and brought to mind why we were all there.

After enjoying a hot dog provided by Tim and Linda Beatty of County Farm Centre, the golfers hit the links to try to win a hole in one prize – either a boat, motor and trailer from Deerhaven Farm and Garden, or a new Ford Explorer from Prinzen Ford. 

Alas, a prize-winning ace was not to be and more practice is required for next year.

After 18 holes, a delicious steak dinner provided by Bill and Marni Grieves of Wheelhouse View Restaurant was enjoyed by all. 

The silent Auction included Toronto Maple Leaf tickets, a beautiful quilt, golf packages, original art and stays at local AirBnB locations, generously donated by businesses and individuals.

Everyone went home happy and satisfied after a great day of golf and the knowledge they had helped a great cause.

With the success of the day, the Hospice Prince Edward Scramble will definitely become an annual event, slated for late September 2020.
