The Chamber of Commerce in on the lookout for its next Executive Director.

In a letter to its membership sent February 12, the Chamber announced Lesley Lavender is stepping down after five years at the helm of the non-profit, member-driven business association. The Board of Directors explained Ms. Lavender was resigning her post to “pursue another exciting opportunity” effective March 11, 2024.

“During her tenure, Lesley demonstrated unwavering dedication, innovative leadership, and a passion for fostering economic growth within Prince Edward County. Under her guidance, the Chamber of Commerce has achieved numerous milestones and played a vital role in the success of local businesses,” the Board said in a statement.

Among the highlights of her work as CEO, Ms. Lavender created the annual Prince Edward County Business Excellence Awards program. Under her watch, the Awards celebration continued on on Zoom through the pandemic.

Ms. Lavender was instrumental in the Chamber’s effort to sustain local businesses during the pandemic. In the aftermath of the discovery of COVID-19, the local Chamber office organized and delivered a worker test kit program that screened and kept employees safe.

“It has been a privilege to work with such a dynamic group of business leaders, and I am proud of what we have accomplished together,” Ms. Lavender said. “I believe the Chamber is well-positioned for continued success and look forward to its future achievements.”

The search begins

Chamber Chair Jason Clarke thanked the outgoing CEO for her contributions to the local business community and said the organization will immediately initiate a thorough search for a new CEO to build upon the momentum established during Ms. Lavender’s tenure.

Mr. Clarke told the Gazette that the Chamber was fortunate to have two dedicated and talented staff who will oversee day-to-day operations at the Chamber office until a new CEO is selected. 

“We also have an experienced Board of Directors who will support Chamber staff when needed as well as continue moving forward with our strategic plan. We are anticipating a seamless transition into new leadership,” he said.

While the search for the next Chamber CEO officially commences Feb. 19, several viable candidates have already expressed interest in the position.

“We are looking for a dynamic leader with excellent communication and relationship-building skills. The Chamber is focused on building even stronger relationships with our partners and business community,” Mr. Clarke added. 

“Our next CEO will have an appreciation for all things Prince Edward County. As well as being a strategic thinker who will continue to execute and further develop our strategic initiatives.”
