A fuel spill was the cause of the contamination in Marsh Creek yesterday.
In an update issued Wednesday morning, the municipality and Ministry of Environment, Conservation, and Parks reported a fuel spill near the intersection of Picton Main Street and Bowery Street entered the stormwater system and flowed to Marsh Creek.
On Tuesday, the smell of petrochemicals coming from Marsh Creek led the municipality to contact the Ministry and start spill containment.
The MOECP is currently investigating the cause of the spill. Anyone with information is asked to contact MECP by filing a report online or calling 1-866-663-8477. You can remain anonymous.
A cleanup crew is on the scene at Main Street and containment measures continue in the Marsh Creek area.
The County says drinking water supplied by the Picton Water Treatment Plant remains safe for consumption. Monitoring of Picton and Bloomfield’s water supply will continue throughout the incident response.
