Panthers Audrey Maracle and Thomas Rice were elected by their peers at the Student Voice Symposium. Secondary Students from all Hastings & Prince Edward District School Board’s catchment area gathered to share school initiatives — and elect three student trustees for a one-year term.
Mr. Rice was elected as one of two student trustees while Ms. Maracle was elected as the Indigenous student
trustee. Joining them at the board table next year will be Centennial’s Maria Nash. All three will be sworn in at the first HPEDSB board meeting in September.
Student trustees do not have a vote, but participate in public board meetings. They represent student opinions and join in sub-committee discussions. Student trustees make elected board members aware of issues and opinions in the schools.
Currently, Wellington resident and Centennial Secondary Student Julia Cranshaw is finishing up her term as a student trustee.
