A unique art exhibition is coming to the Arts on Main Gallery this month.

Invoking its mandate to to engage with Prince Edward County community and make art accessible and inclusive, the cooperative gallery is proud to present Ethan Weitendorf’s “A Visual Spectrum” this January.

Because of his neurodiversity, young Mr. Weitendorf possesses a unique artistic ability.

“His paintings are truly remarkable for their bold colours, direct graphic quality and unique signature style,” Arts on Main Gallery member Barb Hoegenaur explained.  “Once you’ve seen one of his works, you’ll instantly recognize his unmistakable approach.”

Each Weitendorf creation begins with a vine charcoal drawing on canvas. Line and shape flow in a remarkable, matter-of-fact way that is a joy to witness. The artist’s concentration is intense despite the appearance of ease and he rarely changes the drawing. Mr. Weitendorf carefully works his way around the composition, making one colour decision at a time. At times he uses colour straight from the tube balanced with complex grays and neutrals, resulting in a striking harmony of colours and shapes.

“We’re thrilled to be able to host Ethan and his work and invite the public to take a closer look at this incredible talent and unique perspective,” said Ms. Hoegenaur.

The Gallery is on seasonal hours for the month of January and February and is open Wednesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The show runs January 10-30. Mr. Weitendorf will be at the gallery to meet guests Saturday, Jan. 13.
